Jonathan Walters, International Programs Director

Jonathan Walters was the Founding Artistic Director of Hand2Mouth Theatre working in the US and abroad leading community-engaged creative workshops and projects the last 20+ years. Jonathan’s work and collaborations have been presented at colleges, theaters, schools, prisons and contemporary festivals nationally and in Latin America, Europe, and Africa. H2Ms work has been covered in multiple online, print, and radio outlets, including Oregon Public Broadcasting and the New York Times, and has performed Off-Broadway. Jonathan also directs and teaches theatre devising at colleges and performance venues across the Pacific Northwest, the greater U.S., as well as internationally. He has participated in selective artist residencies (Caldera Arts in Central Oregon; Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY; EMPAC in Troy, NY; Casa Santa Ana in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico) and was awarded fellowships and travel grants for international projects, including an Oregon Arts Commission 'Individual Artist Fellowship' and the Career Development Program for Directors Fellowship from the Theatre Communications Group and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Jonathan is currently H2M’s first Director of International Programs working with teams of artists in conjunction with the U.S. State Department and U.S. Embassies, international NGOs and individuals to organize, fund and lead international collaborative cultural diplomacy projects. Recent awards include a State Department Alumni TIES grant for “Transforming Conflict Through Theatre", to help shape H2M’s Dialogue and Difference curriculum into a peace-building and community integrative approach to cultural exchange. In the past year H2M’s International Programs worked in 8 different countries and the African Union.
