Hand2Mouth is launching a year-long residency program for high schoolers to learn devising techniques, culminating in the creation and production of a new work created exclusively by the teen participants.

We are looking for young artists ages 14-19 interested in collaborating and creating as part of the H2M Youth Residency Program.

Youth Residency Program artists will work with Hand2Mouth company members, resident and partnering artists using a variety of devising methods and mediums to create an original performance.

There is something magical that happens when a group of people decide they will make something together. Something that’s never been seen before. You’re required to take risks, hold each other up, look out for one another; sometimes listen and sometimes speak. In devised theater, you’re a creator: your story, your life, your way of seeing the world, your artistry, that’s what makes the show. `

This is:

  • Collaborative Storytelling

  • Giving voice to how you see the world

  • An opportunity for dialogue and exchange

  • Working with regional and national devising artists.

  • A look into the process of working artists

  • It’s fun, it’s cool, it’s relevant.

The year-long schedule is TBD by the ensemble with fluid scheduling and will include a week-long summer intensive (August, 2019), a fall workshop series (September-December, 2019), a winter showing at Fertile Ground (January, 2020), and a spring production (May, 2020). The program works best when all attend each meeting. Commitment is mandatory.

Summer Intensive dates are: August 19-22, 2019 M-Th from 10am-2pm at Shout House.

The entire residency will be free for participants.
