The collaboration between U.S., Colombian and Dominican artists took place in January 2024. The U.S. team, including H2M Artistic Director Michael Cavazos and theatre artist and professor Robi Arce-Martińez was joined by H2M’s former 2023 (DoS funded) Community Engagement Exchange Fellow from the Spring 2023 cohort, Colombian theatre artist Natalia Arroyave.  This team partnered with Dominican theatre/dance artists Yeifri Negre and Israel Guerrero to work with LGBTQ+ young creatives, and allies, in two different workshops that both culminated in public performances for the community. The participants explored and celebrated the themes of their lives, ambitions, difficulties and realities living in the Dominican Republic today.  The workshop participants were gathered via open call in partnership with Dominican LGBTQ+ activist and social change leader, and CEE 2023 Fellow, Oliver Vásquez.  The first workshop was held in the capital Santo Domingo, and then the team traveled to Israel’s hometown of Santiago de los Caballeros to organize the second workshop and performance.

The artistic team is continuing to work together to organize events around the annual Pride celebration in Santo Domingo in the Summer of 2024.

This project was supported by the U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo.
