This collaboration was between U.S. and Peruvian theatre and film artists focusing on leading workshops for local creatives and youth in the greater Lima area. Additional workshops were led by the Peruvian artistic community leaders who traveled to Lima to experience Hand2Mouth’s ‘Dialogue and Difference’ curriculum in action, and then return to their home communities to lead their own versions of the training later in the year.

In April 2022, the artistic team co-led a workshop intensive at Casa Yuyachkani, a celebrated cultural centre in Lima, selected via an open call, gathering an inter-generational group of Peruvian creatives. The workshop culminated in a public performance created and performed by the workshop participants.

The artistic team then led a workshop, with a culminating performance for the community, for local youth in the northern outskirts of Lima at the cultural centre Pukllay, exploring the themes of death, dying, and the differing cultural approaches and responses to it. A short documentary of the exchange was created by Tania Liz Gumarra Huamani.

Visiting cultural leaders who had come to Lima to witness the collaborative approach in person, then traveled home (Sarah Parades: Ayacucho, Ray Alvarex: Trujillo, Chaska Mori: Puerto Maldonado) and each completed their own respective versions of the theatre workshops in their home communities over the following months.

This project was supported by the U.S. Embassy Lima.
