Hi! I'm Nurys Herrera, a Peruvian bilingual actor, writer, and voice-over artist based in Portland, Oregon.
I caught the acting bug at twelve, and apparently it's immortal because I still have it! It all started with a couple of TV commercials, and I haven't stopped training, learning, and saying "yes" to new creative adventures ever since. I've been performing professionally in Portland since 1998.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of performing with Miracle Theatre, Triangle Productions!, Voz Alta, and most recently Hand2Mouth Theatre. I also spent several years with Portland Public Schools' Distance Learning Program, teaching Spanish to elementary students through ¡Hola, Hola!, where I got to create and play a whole cast of quirky characters. (Honestly, I think they still live somewhere in my head.) Beyond the stage, I've lent my voice to television commercials, corporate projects, and documentaries.
I'm drawn to stories that help us laugh at ourselves and recognize the beauty, absurdity, and humanity in everyday life. If an audience leaves thinking, "Wait... that's happened to me too!" then I can say, "Mission accomplished. Next!"
I recently wrote and performed my first original solo show, System Check, and I'm currently developing more solo work. I'm excited to be part of Hand2Mouth Theatre, collaborating with artists who create bold, meaningful work that sparks conversation, builds community, and invites people to see the world—and each other—from new perspectives.
For me, acting is freedom, and writing is therapy—a way of making sense of life, finding humor in the everyday, and discovering myself one story at a time.
