Hand2Mouth returned to Cairo, Egypt for the third time since the International Program was launched in 2020, performing a new devised work at the largest festival of theatre in the Arabic world, the Cairo International Festival of Experimental Theatre (CIFET) produced annual by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture. 

The touring performance ‘Y recuerda Tichangoshaina... An Encounter of Cultures’ was created in 2023 by H2M Company Member Natalia Arroyave (Columbia) and Lonesome Kudzaishe Tapiwa (Zimbabwe) when they met during a fellowship with H2M in Portland, Oregon. The piece uses voice, body, movement and imagery created by the imagination & presence of the actor/creators to tell the story of how they were born the same year on two distant continents, and improbably coming together for a journey of self-discovery in a new location as strangers in a strange land.

The show was curated into the festival, and performed three evenings as part of the main program, with sold out performances at the historic El Taliaa Theatre in Downtown Cairo. Articles about the show were featured in the festival’s daily newspaper, and the touring team met and connected with artists and curators from Egypt, the MENA region, Africa and Europe.
